Morehead Writing Project

Working with teachers to improve writing in Eastern Kentucky

On October 31, my student "authors" are going to celebrate writing by having an "Open Mic Day" in our classroom. They are going to share their fiction tales. They have been working and thinking to make their stories the best. I told my students what "Open Mic Night" was like for me . . . the nervous stomach . . .the butterflies . . . but we had so much fun. We are inviting all families and friends. If you have spare time from 1-2:00 on the 31st, stop by and join in the fun.

I had a microphone and podium set up for the kids to use, and they introduced each student author to a room packed with family and friends. They love writing!! For weeks before that special day, they complained, whined, and protested, but they were truly proud of themselves when all was said and done. We have another "open mic day" planned in December.
