Liz Mandrell-
A "blue ribbon" performance at Al's on Wednesday! Thought your prose was as cool as the "found poetry" titles from the weekly news rags.
Would you be by any chance going to the KY writing project retreat in Crestwood on june 29th -july 1? I'm headin' that way and just curious who else out there is.
I had a grand time at Holler. Left LEX at 4:15am to get to Inez to do early duty on Thursday.
Hopfully we wont let a score of years go by before our paths cross again.
peace and love be with you and yours,
Mick "Metrobilly" McCoy

Recently attended the large climate change rally/protest up at DC Capitol Power Plant (March 2nd). Half of the 3,ooo there were risking arrest but they took not one of us. Many Kentucky Kats were there including Wendell Berry, eric reese, Ed McClannahan, Jim Webb, Margret Stewart and about 45 members of KFTC.
Kathy Metaha and Darrel Hannah were there to give it a little star power.
It was great. I think I've found my callin' - "Savin' the Planet". Will be at another rally in NC on the 20th of April. Go Green!

hey
My daughter, Annalyse, and her band get to play on stage at The Bitter End. It's a venue in the Village up in NYC that Dylan, Young, Peter- Paul and Mary, and more recently Norah Jones passed through.
The Band, 2/3 Goat, is a bluzy folk like bunch. The girl is up there "for to seek her fortune" in the music/theatre scene and this gig is big for her.
By the way- could you read some stuff of mine and tell me what's wrong with it?, Why I should trash it?, etc.,etc., etc.?
Look forward to hearing from you.
peace,

Liz,
I went to Cameroon, Africa in the summer of 07 for 5 weeks with a bunch of Union college people, It was a life changing experience, I still must find time to finish my paper "Cameroon- Africa's Appalachia".
I fell on a freshly mopped, unmarked floor at my school last April 23rd ( the same day McBush came to Inez). I was eventually flown out to UK and have lost all sense of taste and smell because of that incident.
I believe those two happenings (esp. the latter) have pushed me more to write in the last few months. Hell, I dont know maybe my soul has looked over the mountaintop and made me feel the last of my years are near. If so, I can not leave my family, friends (and emenies) gold or ground so I thought I might possible leave them a piece of my mind through a few little tales. So here I am Sleepin' with my boots on and dancin' like there's no tomorrow.
Might get in to helpin' plan a retreat for the fellows and fellers of the MWP, but wouldn't be interested in presenting.
I'm not a great teacher.
But ever once in a while, when the moon is full and the air is chilled and the bon fire's blazing, when I'm embraced by a hanful of friends, when graspping the right kind of spirit and a folk song is makin' love to my mind- I'm walkin through the pages of an unwritten novel. May we all make time to record it.
peace,
Mick

Ms. Mandrell,
I left a message for the MWP a few weeks back on a call for suggestions. I did not hear back from anyone and I am afraid my idea of a weekend retreat at The gorge fell on deaf (or death) ears.
The retreat would be from friday evening till sun. Mini sessions and break outs on whats working in the classroom, etc, would be arranged by the project team as would the stipen for a coupleof ky poet/ writers to adress the group. Sharing time for fellows and fellers would be on the agenda as would an opitional hike through the woods. Did you hear tell of this message from any of your fellow fellers?
Hell, I don't know beans from apple butter when it comes to computers or sending words through space-but I do have a sense of place- Damn! There's a song in there somewhere!
peace, sister

I'm still in Inez fightin' Mountaintop removal, cannin' pickles, feedin' stray cats and tryin' my damndist to poison the minds of the youth befor they become presidents and gererals.
Can see the light at the end of the tunnel of my teachin' career. (I may go blind.) .
A former student of mine teaches in Mt. Sterling-I believe she teaches English as a Second Language-but than again, it may be French. Cindy. A sweet spirit. Do you know her?
You been writin' any tales? Would love to read one.
Are there any writing groups for 50 year old groupies of John Prine?Turn me on to one who might open their circle to a lonely liberal lookin' for the Woodstock Nation.
Say "hello in there" when you get the chance-My truck is dyin' and I don't have a dog.
Peace and Love be with you and yours.

I am McCoy, a computer -illiterate teacher from the striped hills of East Kentucky who would rather be called an SOB then a Republican.
I have a creative writing class and would like to secure about 600 dollars to publish a student writing magazine. I know nothing about how the hell to go about the publication scene and would like to here from you.
Please excuse any misspelling, it is a Maker's Mark night after an all day car- wash fundraiser for my theatre group to afford a bus to go to the Barter.
Please excuse if this note is out of line, but I need to talk to someone who can help me.
I may retire after this year and spend some time in Cameroon helping the Social Demorcatic Front to overthrow the corrupt French puppet who has ruled that country for Damn near 25 years.
I was sorry to hear about Nancy. She and Gene and George were good for me while I was at Morehead. She was kind and truly cared about writing and her students.Hope you can write back either on this site or at mccoymick@hotmail.com.
Peace be with you and yours,
McCoy
